This Privacy Policy explains how Koshera (the "App") handles information when you use it. Koshera is operated by Obzena ("we", "us", "our"), located in Sheridan, Wyoming, United States. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.
In short: We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't ask for your name or create a traditional account for you. Photos you submit are used only to perform the kosher analysis you request and are not retained on our servers afterward. Your scan history is stored only on your device.
1. What the App does
Koshera is an AI-powered kosher checker. You provide photos of a product label and the App returns an AI-generated assessment of its likely kosher status, based on the kosher certification (hechsher) and ingredients it can read, tailored to the standards you select. This is informational guidance only. It is not a rabbinic or halachic ruling and not an official kosher certification.
2. Information we process
Photos you submit. When you run a check, the photos you take or select are transmitted to our backend and to our third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI) solely to generate your result. We do not use your photos to train AI models. The photos are processed transiently and are not stored on our servers after the analysis is returned.
Scan history (on-device). A copy of your scans (photos and results) is stored locally on your device only, so you can revisit past checks. You can delete any entry at any time from within the App.
Kosher preferences. The standards you choose (for example Chalav Yisrael, Pas Yisroel, kitniyot, or Passover mode) are stored on your device and sent with a scan so the analysis can be tailored to you. These preferences may reflect your religious observance; we use them only to produce your result and do not sell or share them for advertising.
Anonymous identifier. The App uses an anonymous sign-in (Firebase Anonymous Authentication) that generates a random, app-specific identifier. It is not linked to your name, email, or real-world identity, and is used to apply subscription access and usage limits.
Subscription & purchase status. To provide premium features, we process your purchase and subscription status through Apple and our subscription provider (RevenueCat). We do not receive your full payment card details; payments are handled by Apple.
Support & feedback. If you contact support or send feedback, we receive the message you write, your email address (if you provide one), and your approximate country, associated with your anonymous identifier, so we can respond and improve the App.
Usage analytics. We collect anonymous, aggregate usage events (for example that onboarding was completed) to understand how the App is used. These are not tied to your name or identity.
Technical & diagnostic data. Like most apps, we and our infrastructure providers (e.g. Google Firebase) process basic technical data needed to operate the service reliably and to detect abuse.
3. How we use information
To run the kosher analysis you request and return your result.
To tailor results to the kosher standards you select.
To provide and manage premium access and enforce fair-use limits.
To respond to your support requests and feedback.
To maintain security, prevent abuse, and keep the service working.
4. AI processing
Your results are generated by artificial intelligence. To produce them, the photos and your selected preferences are sent to our AI provider for analysis. AI assessments can be incomplete or wrong, especially from limited or unclear photos. Koshera does not issue kosher certification and its output is not a substitute for the product's official hechsher or for guidance from a qualified rabbinic authority. Always verify the actual certification on the product and consult a competent rabbinic authority when it matters.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. We share information only with service providers that help us run the App, strictly to provide the service:
Apple (App distribution and payments)
Google Firebase (anonymous authentication, backend functions, configuration, analytics, diagnostics)
RevenueCat (subscription management)
OpenAI (AI analysis of submitted photos)
These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose information if required by law.
6. Data retention
Submitted photos are not retained on our servers after your result is generated. Your on-device scan history and preferences remain until you delete them or remove the App. Anonymous identifiers, subscription records, and support messages are kept only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections, to protect data in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
8. Children
Koshera is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Your choices and rights
You can delete your scan history on your device at any time, and you can delete your account and associated data from within the App (Settings → Account → Delete account and data). Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete personal information. Because we don't collect your name or a traditional account, the main identifier we hold is your anonymous app ID — you can find it in the App's Settings and include it when you contact us at hello@obzena.com so we can assist with a request.
10. International users
We operate from the United States and use service providers that may process data in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you understand your information may be processed in these locations.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes will be reflected here.
